Matcha Mango Smoothie

THIS RECIPE REVAMP MAKES MY TOP 5 SWEET TREAT LIST!

I first posted this recipe a couple years ago, but I wanted to jazz it up and show it off again! Inspired by the delicious smoothie bowls I frequently enjoyed during my short time in Boulder during my first year of undergrad, this mango matcha smoothie is a total win!

When I first started running, this was my go-to post-run fuel. It’s easy to whip together, replenishes those glycogen stores, and gave me a good dose of energy to get through my workday – plus I could take it on the go for my commute. Nowadays, I mix up my smoothie routine quite a bit, but I always come back to this one as a favorite!

WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH MATCHA?

Matcha is a great addition to any smoothie (in my opinion) and this one highlights that signature green tea taste and all the benefits that it brings. Matcha has been trending for a while and the benefits are proof as to why it’s here to stay! More nutritious than a mug of steeped green tea? Think about it like this, instead of letting green tea leaves soak in water and then throwing them away, using matcha is literally drinking the ground tea leaves, packing a higher nutrient content!

Here’s a quick rundown of the benefits matcha packs – high antioxidant content, boosts brain function, prevents multiple chronic diseases, and a natural energy boost! Want to know the deets on matcha? Check out this post I wrote about at the start of the year – matcha is one of the 5 Foods You Need to Eat in 2018 !

Mango and green tea offer the perfect balance in this blend and is as refreshing in the morning after a run as it is in the afternoon for a pick me up! Quick, simple, and dang good for you –  this is a must-have!

MAKE IT VEGAN

  • Use your favorite plant-based protein powder.

  • Skip the honey and opt for agave.

LESS SUGAR?

  • Go for half of a banana.

THICKEN IT UP

  • Use all frozen fruit instead of fresh!

My favorite way to enjoy this smoothie? Either straight up in a glass, or with a little less liquid to thicken it up and in a mug as a bowl – top it with some hemp granola and a drizzle of honey – you can’t beat it!
